Entry Requirements

You must have achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a minimum of grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics.

 

Is this course for me?

  • You feel confident working with numbers as 10% of this course is numerically assessed and results require interpretation and evaluation.
  • This is a traditional academic course which uses theoretical understanding to make judgements.  No coursework, assessment is by 100% examination.
  • You want to develop the personal skills you will need to be successful in business.
  • You have an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach as aspects of business can be studied from a range of perspectives which seek to challenge assumptions.
  • You want to develop a broad understanding of business principles using case studies and research of real businesses.
  • You may wish to consider studying A Level Maths or A Level Statistics alongside this subject to help you develop the necessary mathematical skills required to study business.

 

Where does it lead?

In terms of further study, Business Studies is highly regarded by the majority of universities as an excellent foundation for Degree level study as it will help you develop your analytical and evaluative skills. Business Studies has been one of the fastest growing university subjects and is certainly one of the largest. Some students study a general business course, whilst others choose to specialise in a specific area of business, like marketing or accountancy. This course will also give you a good grounding in business skills which may someday help you manage your own business.

Business Decisions & Strategy develops the concepts introduced in Managing Business Activities. Students will develop an understanding of:

  • Decision-making Techniques
  • Influences on Business Decisions
  • Assessing Competitiveness
  • Managing Change

 

Global Business

Global Business develops the concepts introduced in Marketing & People. Students will develop an understanding of:

  • Globalisation
  • Global Markets and Business Expansion
  • Global Marketing
  • Global Industries and Companies
  • (Multinational Corporations)

 

How will I be assessed?

The Business course is assessed through examination (100%) - three papers, each two hours.
