Birkenhead Sixth Form College continues to be an outstanding provider of education, with Ofsted's latest inspection giving the College the highest possible grading once again.

The inspection took place in April 2024 and a result of ‘Outstanding’ was bestowed upon the College by inspectors from the UK’s education watchdog.
This follows the previous inspection from 2016-17 in which Birkenhead Sixth Form College was deemed as Outstanding in all areas.
The glowing 2024 report highlighted the quality of teaching at the College, the superb results, the overall student experience and praised the College’s approach to A Level and BTEC education for students after Year 11.

The inspectors’ findings reinforced what the College has always fundamentally stood for: that our unwavering belief in the science of learning means that all students can succeed, whether they come to us as high performing students in GCSEs or have had any number of varying experiences in education prior to sixth form. What students from any school can achieve with us in limitless.
Both the latest report and the previous Outstanding grading are testament to this belief and this approach.

We highly recommend reading the brief yet detailed OFSTED report as it outlines what students can expect from their time at Birkenhead Sixth Form College and what sets our standards so high to ensure that each student fulfils their true potential.

Principal at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, Mike Kilbride, said: “This College exists to change the educational landscape and offer students a genuine alternative after their GCSEs – an alternative to selective schools, to being left behind in their current system or to becoming stuck in an institution that does not help them be the best versions of themselves possible. This is a place that raises aspirations from any starting point, higher or lower GCSE achievement, and we do it in an environment that is proven to make young people thrive.”

Mr Kilbride concluded: “The re-affirming of our Outstanding status from Ofsted is not the end of our achievements, but another positive marker on our continuing journey that we look forward to sharing with our students now and those joining us in the future.”
