Spotlight on Talent: BSFC's Thriving Performing Arts Courses

Students at Birkenhead Sixth Form College are embracing the spotlight through an inspiring range of Performing Arts courses that offer creativity, confidence, and countless opportunities for live performance and cultural enrichment.

BSFC proudly offers Drama A Level, Dance A Level, and Performing Arts BTEC, each designed to develop technical skill, artistic expression, and a strong foundation for further study or careers in the arts. These courses go far beyond the classroom, offering students the chance to experience the professional world of performance first hand.

Each course runs regular theatre trips throughout the academic year, giving students the opportunity to experience a deeper understanding of theatrical styles, choreography, and performance techniques. In addition, all three courses come together for an annual London trip, where students explore the capital’s vibrant arts scene, including West End performances. 

BSFC's Performing Arts department has become a hub of creative excellence, with the annual college production consistently earning rave reviews from audiences. Whether it's a classic play, a piece of contemporary drama, or an innovative musical, the production is a highlight of the College calendar and a testament to staff and students’ dedication and skills.

The Dance Show is another annual fixture that never fails to impress. With expressive choreography, high-energy routines, and striking visuals, the showcase allows dancers to shine in both group and solo pieces. Recently, Dance students dazzled audiences with their talent and creativity in Encore, a high-energy dance showcase. The production featured a variety of dance styles, from contemporary and jazz to hip-hop and ballet, highlighting the hard work and dedication of the students.

Throughout the year, students also take part in showcase nights for each subject. These evenings offer a platform for performers to present their own work, refine their skills, and celebrate their progress with family, friends, and fellow students.

Whether pursuing a career in the arts or developing transferable skills like communication, teamwork, and creativity, BSFC Performing Arts students gain far more than a qualification. With expert teaching, hands-on experience, and a strong emphasis on collaboration, these courses prepare students to thrive both on and off the stage.
