A second year student at Birkenhead Sixth Form College has been chosen to represent Team GB at a world gymnastics competition held in Azerbaijan.
Trampolinist Kendrick Moore, 17, heads to Azerbaijan’s capital Baku later in November to take part in the Aerobic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition, competing alongside more than 200 athletes from nearly 20 countries.
Kendrick, who takes Biology, Chemistry and Maths A Levels at the College, is part of Propulsion Trampoline Club based at Birkenhead Youth Club, and will make his first appearance for the country in the double mini trampoline (DMT) event, alongside trampolining partner, Jack.
Kendrick is in need of support to travel and take part in the event, and you can help him represent Great Britain by donating to his GoFundMe page here - https://gofund.me/9f28998d
Kendrick has only been trampolining for five years, which makes his selection for international level all the more remarkable, but when asked if the sport came naturally to him, Kendrick said: “Not really! I’ve had to work pretty hard to get where I am. It’s taken a lot of dedication and a determination to not give up.
“I was really happy when I got the call to be in Team GB a few weeks ago. My family are so happy and supportive too. I’m looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait to go to Baku.”
Despite his commitment to extremely high level sport, Kendrick has his sights set on studying Chemistry at university after finishing College, and even plans to take a PhD in the science.
Kendrick, who joined the College from Woodchurch High School in 2020 and has never missed a single lesson since arriving, said: “I enjoy the sport and academic work in equal measure really. Working hard in one knocks onto the other and helps give me the work ethic and drive to do well. I’ve loved coming to the College and have had an amazing time so far.”
