Sports student Jemma Edwards carried the Olympic torch on the 2nd June 2012. Jemma was nominated by Sport England for her voluntary work in community sports and ran through the Isle of Man during the first few days of the relay.
“She is a true ambassador representing the importance of volunteers in our society.” - Councillor David Elderton

While the torch was passing our doorstep on the 1st June, Jemma flew to Isle of Man, and due to the security levels her Olympic torch travelled VIP in the pilot’s cockpit. The only non-resident carrying the torch in the Isle of Man Jemma still proved very popular, she recalled “Everyone wanted their picture taken with the torch and me, little kids on scooters followed us along the streets, I had security running with me, it was amazing.”
