Only nutters jump out of perfectly good planes! On the Friday 29th June students and staff dubbed ‘The Flying Wirral Squirrels’ are skydiving for North West Cancer Research Fund.

As part of college’s Challenge Week they will jump from 10,000 feet; free falling a terrifying 5,000 feet in just 20-30 seconds and then gliding like flying squirrels the rest of the way.

The group chose North West Cancer Research Fund because everybody on the team knows someone affected by cancer. NWCRF are a regional charity raising funds for nearby universities to research cancer, they spend an average of 90p in every £1 donated funding investigations into the causes of cancer and how it spreads.

Organiser and Personal Tutor Jen Fodden, students and staff taking part hope to raise over £1000. They have already been hard at work bag packing, planning cake sales and organising ‘guess how many sweeties in the jar’. UCFB have very kindly sponsored the squirrels with hoodies so look out for them around college and at a supermarket near you!
