The Olympic Torch passes our doorstep on Friday 1st June, around 6.00pm. The Olympic flame was handed to the UK in Athens, starting a 70-day, 8,000 mile (12,874km) journey around Britain.

BSFC student to carry the Olympic Torch:

Sports student Jemma Edwards will carry the flame through the Isle of Mann on 2nd June. She was chosen from thousands of applicants to take part after Sport England nominated her for outstanding work; encouraging and inspiring young people as a volunteer sports coach at University Academy in Birkenhead.

Jemma is an award winning and inspiring student, and the college is very proud of her achievements.

Laura Black – Handball Achievements:

Laura will spend three weeks at the Olympics assisting with Olympic Handball after being been successful in trials for the Great Britain Handball under 20's team. On April 1st she travelled to London to train at the Olympic Handball Area at Crystal Palace for 2 days and then went on to Poland to compete in a World Championship qualifying event.

Laura has been on the England Handball team for some time along with other BSFC students, who previously travelled to Italy to represent England.

Swimmer secures sponsorship from FedEx.
