Media teacher at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, Julie Edwards, explained:
"A Level Media students and teachers attended a book launch with leading broadcaster Stuart Maconie on Wednesday to ask his advice about a career in journalism.
Media and Film student, Oscar Zabludow, said: “I really enjoyed listening to and speaking with Stuart Maconie, I found his advice to be precise and professional. He was great to talk to, really engaging: he advised us to keep writing as many articles as possible and build up our portfolio.”
Media student, Leah Holmes, added: “Meeting Stuart was a great inspiration for me as a media student as he gave me great advice on journalism and motivated me to pursue my studies and writing career.“
Stuart Maconie is well-loved for his extensive work in music journalism and radio, notably his popular Weekend Breakfast show on BBC6 Music with Mark Radcliffe. He is currently touring his book, The Full English: an enlightening, entertaining journey through England, from Bristol’s Banksy to Durham’s beaches, from Cotswolds corduroy to Stoke’s oatcakes.
Maconie walks in the footsteps of J.B. Priestley’s classic travelogue, English Journey, to explore our national identity and how it has evolved over the last century. On his way, Stuart takes inspiration from the people he meets at bus stops and train stations, cafes and corner shops.
The media team saw Stuart in events in both Birkenhead and Liverpool. It was a truly interesting and thought-provoking afternoon.
