Image of Creative media insights at SAE for IT students creating computer games

IT teacher Paul Moore talks through the students’ fascinating trip to the SAE Institute in Liverpool:

BTEC IT Diploma students visited the SAE Institute campus in Liverpool for a gaming workshop and tour of the facilities. SAE is a leading creative media educator, and our students are currently preparing for their own games development projects, so they were able to get some valuable insight into games development with several workshops.

Each student created their own first person shooter using Unreal Engine, creating the environment for the game and programming an enemy character. Later, the students were able to have a go at 3D sculpting using ZBrush, and they had a go at using VR sculpting tools in the green screen studio.

During the visit, students experienced the new Dolby Atmos lab, used by sound, film and gaming students to mix and master their soundtracks and sound effects.

The visit gave the students the opportunity to get given some good careers information and they found out about the niche degree programmes on offer at SAE.
