Image of Birkenhead Sixth Form College Hosts Annual Apprenticeship Careers Fair

Students at Birkenhead Sixth Form College were given a comprehensive insight into the ever-expanding world of apprenticeships and alternative Post-18 pathways, reinforcing the College’s mission to prepare students not just for exams, but for life beyond education.

The fair brought together a diverse and impressive range of organisations, from prominent universities such as the University of Central Lancashire, Liverpool John Moores University, and Manchester Metropolitan University, to internationally recognised companies like Airbus and Knauf Insulation. Students also had the chance to engage with representatives from the Royal Air Force and Cammell Laird, all united by a common goal: to inform, inspire, and help guide the next generation of apprentices into meaningful and rewarding career pathways.

Students found the fair particularly valuable, with many taking the opportunity to ask insightful questions about apprenticeship applications, entry requirements, and what employers look for in prospective apprentices. They gained a deeper understanding of how work experience, enthusiasm, and transferable skills can make a real difference when applying for competitive apprenticeship programmes. The event also offered first-hand insight into the importance of networking, professionalism, and preparation when exploring alternatives to traditional university routes.

Representing Knauf Insulation at the fair was Cam Woolley, a proud alumni and former Head Student of Birkenhead Sixth Form College. Cam was delighted to return to his former college and shared how pivotal his time at BSFC had been in shaping his personal and professional development.

“Birkenhead Sixth Form College really helped me grow as an individual — not just academically, but personally as well,” he said. “I came out of my shell here, especially through my role as a Head Student and by getting involved in a range of college activities. Those experiences played a huge part in making me who I am today. I owe so much to BSFC.”

It was a pleasure to welcome Cam back and to see how successfully he has progressed in his career.

As the landscape of higher education and employment continues to evolve, Birkenhead Sixth Form College remains committed to adapting its provision to reflect those changes. Events like the Apprenticeship Careers Fair exemplify the College’s proactive approach to careers and further education.
