Birkenhead Sixth Form College has become the only college in the country to claim three consecutive wins at the most esteemed awards in education.
The TES Awards are regarded as the ‘Oscars of education’, and Birkenhead Sixth Form College’s 2020 success compliments accolades received in the two previous years, including the UK Sixth Form College of the Year in 2018.
This year’s award recognises the outstanding results that the College achieves with students resitting crucial Maths and English GCSE qualifications. Our success rates are amongst the highest in the country and help students who missed the pass marks under their high school tuition to move onto A Level study and beyond.
The TES judges said: “At Birkenhead Sixth Form College, they don’t just drill students for an exam, they focus on the whole learner and it pays off. Their achievements are outstanding.”
The College’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring that all students have the same opportunities regardless of their starting point or background has also been celebrated with an award win last year, with judges noting that the College itself is an ‘engine of social mobility’.
Principal at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, Mike Kilbride, said: “To say that we’re proud of the education that we provide for all of our students is an understatement. Our work with giving students the tools to succeed is second-to-none, and so many young people go onto great things after they complete their resits with us.
“While the Maths and English departments at the College deserve all the praise for this latest award for their superb, inspirational teaching, they are part of a College-wide approach to education that means so much more than just preparing for exams. Our results each year are outstanding, but this is a product of meaningful hard work and going about each process in the right way, which means outcomes look after themselves.”
