Image of College's annual 'Futures Day' a major success

The annual ‘Futures Day’ at Birkenhead Sixth Form College proved a hit once more as all first year students enjoyed a day dedicated to giving them all the information they need to make informed decisions about their individual futures.

Nearly 60 different universities and organisations visited the College and students chose which of them to hear from according to their personal preferences and their career goals.

They also had detailed talks on UCAS university applications and apprenticeship options plus a careers fair, all on a busy but fascinating day to round off the academic year after exams.

A special street food lunch went down a treat once again, with a range of cuisine on offer in the glorious sunshine, accompanied by a guest DJ providing the soundtrack.

Although all options are explored for each student at the College, all final year students submit an application to university. Between 85-90% of students go on to higher education each year, but even for those who don’t, submitting a university application through UCAS provides valuable experience in applying for apprenticeships and employment in the future. Receiving offers for university places also gives students who choose a different pathway a back-up option should they change their mind or their circumstances alter.

Now that Futures Day brings an end to the first year of study, the summer time is an ideal opportunity for students to gather work placements and other invaluable extracurricular experience to enhance their applications for university, apprenticeships and employment.
