Eight of our students, including, William Major, Carl Whittam, Lola San, Matthew Clare, Moya Fawcett, Lucy Maddox and Faye Dean are currently completing one week work experience placements at Unilever’s Research Laboratories in Port Sunlight.
The students, who all study science subjects, have just completed their first year at the College, successfully gained places on Unilever’s prestigious work experience programme last year. They faced stiff competition as there were a total of 32 places on offer to students from across the whole of Merseyside and the North West.
Unilever are one of the world’s leading suppliers of Food, Home and Personal Care products and offer many opportunities in work experience and apprenticeships to young people from Wirral and beyond.
Five students have already completed their experience including, Lola San, a former Birkenhead High School Academy student who is currently studying Biology, ICT, Psychology and Business, commented, “The experience has been surprising in a really good way and has opened my eyes to what it is like to work in a professional laboratory. It has been great and I have met some wonderful people and made lots of connections.” Lola hopes to go on to study Biomedical Science.
Fellow student Moya Fawcett, a former South Wirral High School student, completed her placement alongside Lola and added, “I really enjoyed my work placement at Unilever. I particularly enjoyed making the shampoo in the laboratory and testing it out on consumers in their salon- it was really interesting.”
Moya is now considering applying for an apprenticeship with Unilever following her experience, “I feel incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to work at the laboratories and it has definitely helped me to decide the direction of my future.”
