First year students Breandán Fawcett and Ellie Jones have been appointed to the role of Head Students of The Sixth Form College for the 2015/16 academic year. They are taking over the role from former Head students Tom McNally and Kirsty McLaren who are set to complete their studies at the College this summer.

As part of their new role, Breandán and Ellie - who are both former South Wirral High School students - will head up our student ambassador team to assist our new and current students and take part in college events such as our upcoming First Day Event.

Ellie is delighted to have been appointed to the role and said, “It is a great achievement to be named Head Student at The Sixth Form College. I was inspired to apply for the position after witnessing my predecessor, Kirsty McLaren, deliver a speech at an event. I thought she was really inspirational and I aspired to achieve as she has.” Kirsty has successfully gained a scholarship placement worth over $200,000 to study at St Olaf College in the USA from September. Ellie hopes to study Adult Nursing at University after completing her studies and is currently volunteering in St John’s Hospice and is a St John Ambulance cadet.

“I am a caring person and love working with people, which I think will benefit me within the Head Student position. I am looking forward to helping our new students settle in from September and having the chance to meet with new students at events throughout the year to tell them how good I’ve found my experience at the College.”

Breandán, who is currently studying Physics, Maths, Computing and Music, is keen to get stuck into his new role, “I am looking forward to helping organise college events and managing a team of people. I have enjoyed organising big events in the past and hope to use these skills to help with all the behind the scenes efforts that go into them.” Breandán recently organised an event for St Mary’s Church, Eastham to raise money for a new roof which brought in more than £1300 in donations. Breandán added, “I am honoured to have been given the title of Head Student. When I joined the college the students and staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful - there is so much space to work as well as staying close to friends. Coming to The Sixth Form College was the best decision I've ever made and I hope, as Head Student, to inspire other students to feel the same way.”
