Wirral Academy Trust launched by The Sixth Form College

Wirral Academy Trust has been established by The Sixth Form College to raise aspirations, widen horizons and assist in transforming the lives of young people across Wirral and beyond.  The Trust will work collaboratively with local schools to raise standards and offer high quality education based on traditional values and modern educational practice.    

The Birkenhead Park School in Birkenhead (formerly University Academy Birkenhead) is the first school in Wirral to be supported by Wirral Academy Trust.

Wirral Academy Trust will work with The Birkenhead Park School Headteacher Geraint Parry to further develop educational standards and achieve excellence in Maths, English and Science. Wirral Academy Trust believes that these are the core subjects which provide a vital platform for all students to develop the necessary skills and knowledge which enables them to excel in all areas.  

Principal of the Sixth Form College, Kathryn Podmore, is the Chief Executive Officer of Wirral Academy Trust.

Commenting on the launch of the new trust, Mrs Podmore said: “The purpose of Wirral Academy Trust is to afford Wirral students the opportunity to benefit from partnerships based on academic excellence and experience an ambitious and creative learning environment which will enable them to raise their aspirations, widen their horizons and reach their academic potential. Wirral Academy Trust will work with schools to offer a broad, balanced and rich curriculum that enables high standards in core skills to be attained whilst providing a secure and caring environment.  We want to develop socially responsible young people as well as providing clear progression routes and laying the foundations to allow them to excel in all that they do and compete at local, national and international levels.”

Geraint Parry, Headteacher at The Birkenhead Park School said: “The Sixth Form College is a longstanding partner and is geographically and culturally very close.  This local partnership gives us exciting opportunities for joint working in the future that will allow us to continue to raise the aspirations and achievements of our students”.

Wirral Academy Trust’s Board of Trustees is made up of leading local educators and senior leaders from local and national businesses.
