AS Level Sports Student, Nicola Harris, recently represented Wirral in the Merseyside School’s Cross Country Championship at Croxteth Country Park, finishing first out of all Wirral Competitors and taking 6th place overall in the competition.

Nicola, who is studying Sport BTEC Level 3, Psychology, Biology and Health & Social Care at The Sixth Form College has been running for four years and is actively involved with the Wirral Athletics Club at The Oval Leisure Centre. Nicola became inspired to take up running as her Dad and Auntie are both active runners taking part in Triathlons and events such as the Iron Man.

The former Prenton High School student was delighted with her finish time, completing the 13.6 kilometre stretch in just 15 minutes and 26 seconds making her the fastest over all other Wirral Competitors. Nicola commented, "It felt really good to do so well in the competition. I suffer from Sports Induced Asthma so I was really proud to overcome this and finish 6th overall.”

Nicola added, “I think the support from the Sports department has been great – my tutor Pat Riley came to cheer me on and show his support at the competition which is fantastic.”

Sports tutor Patrick Riley commented on Nicola’s success saying, “Nicola performed brilliantly at the Championships and did herself proud. It follows her previous success at the Merseyside Schools League Race at Stadt Moers just before Christmas where Nicola finished in second place. Nicola has been selected to represent Merseyside in the English School Championships which is a fantastic achievement.”
