A team of staff, former students and family members from The Sixth Form College took part in Le Tour Challenge Yorkshire last Friday (4th July 2014) riding a total of 191km and raising £700 for The Teenage Cancer Trust.
After many months of training for the Challenge, the team took to the country lanes of the Yorkshire Dales to cycle Stage 1 of the World’s most famous bike race, riding from Leeds to Harrogate with a total team completion time of just over 10 hours.
The funds raised from the challenge will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity dedicated to providing specialist support for young people with Cancer across the UK. The charity aims to bring young people together so they can be treated together, by teenage cancer experts, in an environment suited to their needs. Visit their website here for more information.
Lead cyclist and Deputy Principal of the College Mike Kilbride said, “It was fantastic to be a part of the Le Tour Challenge Yorkshire and an honour to represent the College in aid of the worthy cause that is The Teenage Cancer Trust. The challenge was tough but everyone gave it their all and showed true determination and resilience throughout. We had a fantastic support team with us from the college who helped keep our motivation levels high and allowed us to focus on the completion of the course. We are extremely grateful for all of the support we received as a team and also for our chosen charity – we look forward to taking on a new challenge in 2015.”
Staff members back at the College showed their support to the BSFC Tour Team by ‘real-time tracking’ the team’s progress in the student social space, 8SQ, and attempting to collectively match the distance via an exercise bike. Principal, Kathryn Podmore completed 5 miles of the course, stating, “I think it is incredible what the BSFC Tour Team achieved and as a College we are extremely proud of everyone who took part and helped to raise money for this worthwhile cause.”
