The School of Art & Design’s Summer Exhibition

The School of Art & Design opened its doors for the Art & Design department’s annual Summer Exhibition this week (Wednesday 25^th June 2014) - the second time it has been held in the College’s new Art & Design block.

Students, parents and guests – including Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, who officially opened the School of Art & Design last November, and the Mayor of Wirral, Steve Foulkes – were able to view works completed by our students in Fine Art, Textiles, Graphics, Art & Design. We were also delighted to include guest work from Kilgarth School.

This year’s exhibition featured works by our first cohort of students studying on the Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media – a full time, one year course designed to help aspiring artists and designers develop the enhanced skills necessary that will assist transition into higher education or employment. All students who applied have achieved progression on to a whole range of HE courses at institutions including UAL Central St Martins and Goldsmiths, The University of London.

Head of Art & Design, Angela Watson was delighted to see so many visitors attending the Exhibition, “Our students have worked incredibly hard and produced some outstanding work, it has been wonderful to have so many people visit the exhibition to support the event and recognise the students’ achievements. This is certainly one of our most successful exhibitions to date. The new facilities in The School of Art & Design have made a real difference to the student experience and the way the students work this year – the evidence of this is in the outcomes and results. The 21^st Century building provides a perfect backdrop to the incredible variety of work our students’ produce. The Exhibition opening had a real celebratory feel and was enjoyed by everyone.”
