19 July 2012
This July, twenty one students successfully completed a practice expedition for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Over a four day expedition in Snowdonia National Park, all of the candidates walked over 70km carrying all of their own kit and food – a massive mental and physical challenge.
Students have been preparing for the expedition on Thursday afternoons since September, attending sessions in their own time after College. The routes they had planned proved challenging, as did some of the weather!
The teaching staff who make up the DofE Award team are extremely proud of the student’s achievements so far, next up is a qualifying expedition in September – which they will all be ready for once their aches, pains and blisters (ouch!) have subsided. Keep up with the team’s new BSFC DofE blog or you can follow them on Twitter @BSFCDofE.

The team guide candidates through preparations for expeditions and help with advice and ideas for the other sections; Volunteering, Skills, Physical and Residential.
