College Students Take the Stage for Spectacular ‘Encore’ Dance Show

Students at Birkenhead Sixth Form College dazzled audiences with their talent and creativity in Encore, a high-energy dance showcase. The production featured a variety of dance styles, from contemporary and jazz to hip-hop and ballet, highlighting the hard work and dedication of the students.

The event brought together Dance students from Year 1, Year 2, and members of BSFC’s extra-curricular Dance group, Aspire. Choreographed by both students and Head of Dance, Emma Potter, the routines explored themes of resilience, joy, and self-expression.

Emma praised the students for their commitment: “I am incredibly proud of each and every one of you in the show. The dedication and hard work you all put in truly paid off, and it’s amazing to see how much you’ve all grown into such talented performers and choreographers! The feedback I’ve received from the show has been overwhelmingly positive, and you are all a true credit to the dance department. The show was sold out and a huge success, and the energy has been fantastic ever since.”

One of the standout moments of the night was a dynamic group number to ‘Come Alive’ from The Greatest Showman, which had the audience clapping along. Solo, duet, and small group performances also left a lasting impression, with expressive contemporary pieces earning particular praise. With a full audience and glowing feedback, Encore has been recognised as a highlight of the College’s performing arts events programme.

The production was the result of months of dedication from Emma and her students. The dancers spent weeks perfecting their routines, fine-tuning movements, and refining transitions. For many Year 2 students, Encore marked their final performance at BSFC, making the night even more exceptional. Emma stated, “for my second years, this was their final performance at BSFC, and now they’re working incredibly hard toward their practical and theory exam. The first years, meanwhile, are excited to continue their dance journey here at the college. I’m beyond proud to be your teacher—well done to all of you once again!”.

Encore certainly lived up to its name, leaving everyone wanting just one more performance.
