Future lawyers at Birkenhead Sixth Form College were treated to an excellent insight into the career path as more than 20 law firms, apprenticeship providers and universities visited for the College’s annual Law Fair, including some familiar faces.
Law is one of the most popular subjects for students to study at A Level or BTEC when they come to the College after GCSEs, and is often chosen by the students to continue studying at undergraduate level when they leave or to gain apprenticeships or employment in the legal arena.
With leading employers coming to the fair to speak to students about possible options after their two years with us, some included our formers students who are now flying high in their careers having started their journeys by studying at the College.
Storm Evans is now a trainee solicitor with Weightmans, a top 45 UK law firm, having studied at the College between 2014 – 2016. Formerly of Upton Hall School before joining the College at sixth form, Storm also took A Levels in English Language and Media Studies before opting to go into Law at university, before gaining employment at the leading law firm’s Liverpool offices.
She said: “It was great to see so many keen students at such a young age!”

Representing Slater and Gordon, another leading international law firm, Jennifer Brunt is another former Birkenhead Sixth Form College student, who is now head of the company’s law team in Liverpool.
Jennifer said: “I left the College in 1997 having studies Psychology, French and English Literature before going into teacher training at university. I went into being a legal clerk, having not really known what it meant! But by 2011 I was one of the youngest heads of department at the company and I’m now a principal lawyer.”
Head of Law A Level at the College, Jen Ludwig, said: “The fair was such a great opportunity for our students to see where a career in law could take them, and it brought real life success stories of real people into focus.
“Careers in law have so many different pathways and options, so the sky’s the limit as far as future goals go for our students. As they could see, students who came here have gone on to do some fantastic things in the area of law and what they do in their studies here can set them up for life.”
Jen concluded: “Law is always a popular option for our students going on to university after finishing with us, but even that is just the start of what they can achieve. The A Level or BTEC they take in Law can open so many doors and open their eyes to the world around us, as we see law in action every single day.”
