Birkenhead Sixth Form College’s staff have been named as finalists to win a prestigious award recognising outstanding quality of teaching.
The teaching staff as a whole were nominated for Educate North’s Teaching Excellence Award, once more cementing the College’s place as a leader in the sixth form sector.
The award celebrates teaching quality and a ‘sustained impact’ upon students in the north of England, and now the wait is on to reveal the winner at a glittering awards ceremony on Thursday (7th April) at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.
It’s not the first time the Educate North Awards have shortlisted the College for an award, with each of the last four years seeing the College as a whole, individuals or departments being named finalists in multiple categories, scooping three wins along the way.
In 2018, the College was named the North of England Sixth Form College of the Year, and the following year our commitment to social mobility and widening participation was recognised with a victory in that category.
Just last year, our Principal, Mike Kilbride, was honoured with the accolade of National Leadership Award, marking the significant achievements of the College under his stewardship.
Mike said: “It’s a tremendous honour to be shortlisted for the award, most importantly because it’s recognition of the full staff body and the outstanding work they do each and every day. They are experts, both in their subject matter and in their teaching techniques, but their passion for what they do with their students and their commitment to ensuring that everyone reaches their full potential is astounding.”
Mike continued: “A few years ago, we set about on a mission to become a world class college. That mission has now changed to focusing on remaining the world class college that we are, and this celebration of the innovative and industry-leading teaching excellence we offer is further proof of our superb sixth form provision.”
