A team of budding entrepreneurs at Birkenhead Sixth Form College have won an award at an event run by national business charity, Young Enterprise.
Dan, Emily, Jamima and Lucy were tasked with coming up with a company and product to design, produce and market for a competition that reaches over 350,000 15 to 19-year-olds every year.
At a trade fair event held at the Intu Trafford Centre, Dan and Emily represented the team and won the award for Customer Service, with the judges noting that they excelled at communicating their business idea to members of the public.
‘On The Road’ is the brainchild of the team, marketing a car accessories kit to new drivers. Using neat, sustainable packaging, the kit comprises a phone holder and charger, auxiliary cable, car perfume, a microfibre cleaning cloth and breakdown guidance.
The College’s team was up against thirteen other schools and colleges from the North West at the event, all trying to win the attention, and purchasing power, of the general public in the huge shopping centre in Greater Manchester.
On presenting Dan and Emily with their award certificate for Customer Service, the judges said: “The team knew their product inside out and presented it so well, conducting themselves professionally when interacting with members of the public.”
The College’s Young Enterprise leader, Kelvin Slesser-Marriott, noted: “The team were also praised for asking questions of the judges when asked about the future potential of their business idea, showing great initiative and an entrepreneurial mind-set. Dan and Emily did the College and themselves proud and were worthy winners of their award.”
The College’s students have the opportunity to get involved with Young Enterprise as an extracurricular activity that definitely makes them stand out from the crowd. Young Enterprise is a UK charity that gives young people experience of business, finance and entrepreneurship, building skills for ‘tomorrow’s business world’.
