Media students at the College enjoyed a visit from a multi award-winning graphic designer, who came to speak to our aspiring creatives about working in the industry and the many paths that are possible to take given the right amount of grit and determination.
Designer, illustrator and artist, Lucy Ledger, owns her own art studio business, specialising in creating unique, hand-painted, mixed media art and transforming it into surface pattern designs, greeting cards and bespoke branding.
Lucy gave an inspiring talk to the students, telling her own story and pointing out some excellent advice for those wanting to enter into the creative industry. With some students unsure about their future career paths, Lucy’s explanation of how to make yourself into a brand and developing a signature style was both fascinating and inspiring.
After giving her presentation, Lucy took the time to look at the work that the Media students are currently producing, offering excellent tips and guidance on how to improve and stamp your own identity onto the entire creative process.
Head of Film and Media Studies at the College, Julie Edwards, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Lucy into our lesson today. The students really enjoyed listening to how she has developed her own award-winning graphic design business in a really competitive market. They really benefited from her advice on everything from how to create your own brand to how to overcome obstacles in the industry.”
Julie continued: “Lucy explained her full story – going to school and doing A Levels here in Wirral, to university and beyond, but the thing which inspired us all the most was how she described the many complications she had to overcome along the way. Her resilience has been a great strength and this was a really inspirational story about how hard work and ambition can help our students achieve their dream occupations in the future.”
