Staff and students at Birkenhead Sixth Form College got into the BBC's Children in Need spirit, with members of staff taking a face full of cream pie all in the name of a good cause.
Students bought raffle tickets in their droves, all to be in with a chance of planting a pie on their chosen staff member, and some staff even managed to give their colleagues some just deserts!
Assistant Principal, Paula Blakemore, took the first pie
Eight good sports ‘volunteered’ to take part, with teachers Richard, Pat, Adam and Andy being joined by Enrichment Officer, Rowena, Premises Manager, Alan, and Study Hall Supervisor, Kev. The College’s Assistant Principal, Paula Blakemore, even got involved, although popular figure, Kev, took the brunt of most of the ‘pieing’, and Alan even decided to take it upon himself to give Rowena an extra pie.
Rowena was taken by surprise when Alan gave her an extra punishment
Students bought raffle tickets and chose their victim, then waited for the draw to see if they were one of the lucky winners to throw a pie.
Head students, Charlie Knowles and Caitlin Jones, came up with the idea and they were pleased with how the activity went.
Caitlin said: “It was great to see the staff get involved and we’d like to say thank you to them for being such good sports. Children in Need is a great cause and we’re really happy that everyone at the College was able to contribute, and have a lot of fun in doing so. We’ve had such a laugh. I felt quite sorry for Richard, though – he must have had to spend ages getting all that cream out of his beard!”

Earlier in the week, Sport teacher, Adam Thomas, organised a staff quiz to raise some extra money for Children in Need, with nearly 50 staff members making donations to participate. The eventual winners of the pub quiz-style competition were Adam’s colleagues from the Sport department, which everyone was assured was mere coincidence.
