Four students studying the Foundation Diploma in Art Design & Media at The Sixth Form College's School of Art & Design are holding an exhibition of their final piece of work from 25th May – 31st May in the Bridewell Studios & Gallery in Liverpool.
The students, Elliott Haigh, Georgina Rowlands, Jacob Hulmston and Ruth Mitchell developed the idea to display their final pieces of work at the Bridewell Studios and Gallery after visiting an exhibition there by Kate Willacy and her collaborative partner Kitty McKay. Kate is a former student of the college who took a year out after completing the Foundation Diploma at The Sixth Form College in July 2014, and is progressing on to study Fine Art at Goldsmiths University in September this year.
The exhibition ‘order / disorder: A Group Exhibition’ includes sculpture, photography and installation work inspired by contemporary fine art practises that examine social and political issues.
Jacob Hulmston, a former Ridgeway High School student, is planning to study Fine Art at the University of Arts at Central St Martins College in London from September alongside Georgina and Elliott. Ruth is taking a gap year before commencing University studies in September 2016. Jacob commented, “It was great to exhibit our work in a professional space. Studying the Foundation Diploma has been one of the best decisions I have made – after completing my A Levels at The Sixth Form College I was still undecided on what direction I wanted to take so having the extra year of study has helped me to clarify what I want to do and grow in confidence. I’m excited about starting University in September and seeing where this takes me.”
Jacob also commented on how he felt fully supported by the Art department throughout out his studies, “Angela Watson, Head of Art and Design, provided lots of support when applying to University and throughout the interview process which proved quite daunting. The facilities at College also exceeded my expectations and have been a fundamental part of my progression – without access to the resources available in The School of Art & Design I wouldn’t have been able to produce the work I envisaged.”
