Excitement is in the air as Mellwood Construction have officially handed over keys to College’s new Arts building. The new build is set to extend opportunities for students in Fine Art, 3D, Graphics and Textiles; designed to provide a professional, creatively stimulating environment for students.
As previously mentioned, the new building consists of five large teaching studios with floor to ceiling windows. Studios on the upper floors look out to the River Mersey and have views of Liverpool's skyline. Additional space and a new lay out for resources have enabled the department to launch a full time Art, Design and Media Foundation Diploma for A Level students continuing with us in 2013/14. This new development strengthens the department’s links with Higher Education, fully preparing students for the challenge of university degree programmes.
Angela Watson, Art & Design Teacher says…
“The Architect, ex-student Rachel Clegg, consulted our team every step of the way which is why we now have a facility that perfectly matches the needs of our students. Beautiful sculptural spaces, with lots of natural light offer inspiration and new creative possibilities for our students to explore. ”
Ofsted’s most recent report of College described the Art and Design Department as having ‘innovative approaches’ to learning and skills development; the department will conclude this successful year by curating an end of year exhibition from current students to formally open the new building in July.

This and other developments are part of a £3.5million investment programme currently underway at the College.
