Image of College Team Claims Third Win At Wirral Rotary Club Youth Speaks

Birkenhead Sixth Form College Debating Club won this year’s Wirral Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition. Over 60 people and various schools from across Wirral were in attendance at the event, hosted at Birkenhead Sixth Form College on Monday 14th January 2013 .

It was the third consecutive win for the team and a second win for Holly Higgins who delivered a meticulously researched speech, debating GM crops. The event was ably assisted by Chairperson Dean Avis and Proposer of the Vote of Thanks Gabriel Hobro.  All are student members of the Birkenhead Sixth Form College Debating Club, co-ordinated by Head of History, Jane Cavanagh.

The team will now go through to the district round of the competition, held at Theatre Clwyd in February.

Rotary International Great Britain & Ireland encourages speaking and presentation skills in young people and are pleased that schools seem to agree. The RIBI Youth Speaks competition, as a result, continues to go from strength to strength each year, producing superb, quality speakers in young people aged from 11 to 18.

If you know of outspoken young people in your schools or youth groups, then seek out your local Rotary club and ask them for details. Please note that club and regional competitions may differ, check with your local Rotary club for more details.
