Image of Debating the issues
For the second year running, Birkenhead Sixth Form College has won the regional round of the Youth Speaks Debating Competition, organised by the Rotary Club. Our team beat off stiff competition from teams from Wirral Grammar for Girls and South Wirral High. Holly Higgins, our key speaker, delivered an outstanding speech on the topic of Broken Britain, putting forward a persuasive argument that the widely-accepted concept is largely a myth. Supporting Holly were Max Norman, our Proposer for the Vote of Thanks and Jessica Gamble, our Chairperson, who also made excellent contributions to the team debate; Jessica deserves a particular commendation as she stepped in at the last minute to replace the original Chairperson who was ill and did a sterling job. Congratulations to all three! The team will now compete in the District Round which will be held at the Theatre Clwyd on 24 February.
