Image of Health Promotion Week

Birkenhead Sixth Form College students have been conducting a Health Promotion campaign aiming to influence the choices made by 16-18 year-olds and other adults.

2009 statistics show an increase in teenage pregnancy in the Wirral.  There are also problems with obesity, high rates of binge drinking amongst adults and a very high score for admittance to hospital with alcohol related and mental health problems.

Students presented information which shocked, informed, educated and outlined access to services.  Activities related to sexual health, teenage pregnancy, healthy eating and alcohol consumption and smoking.   The students had lots of fun playing games with a hard edged message and goody bags and leaflets were available.  The audience compared the effects of beer goggles and alcohol free cocktails and worked out the units in common drinks.
Health and Social Care tutor Pauline McCann was delighted with the student’s efforts.
