A team from Birkenhead Sixth Form College has won the Wirral Rotary Club Youth Speaks Competition 2011.
It was the first time that the College had entered the competition, which was held on Monday 10th January. Max Norman delivered a meticulously researched speech, arguing a convincing case for the legalisation of Class A drugs, ably assisted by Chairperson Alice Woodward and Proposer of the Vote of Thanks Rhodri Martin. All are members of the Birkenhead Sixth Form College Debating Club.
The team will now go through to the district round of the competition, held at Theatre Clwyd on February 4. They have also been invited to lunch at the Wirral Rotary Club and to present the debate again for the Lord Mayor in the Lord Mayor's parlour. Alice, Max and Rhodri are very excited about winning the competition and look forward to taking on more stiff competition in the district round.
