At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language.
You will take an initial assessment which will check you have the required communication and numeracy skills.
Is this course for me?
- The Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level subject option block.
- You want to learn how organisations operate in theory and how they function in practice.
- You wish to learn about the key areas of running a business and making business decisions.
- You want to develop your skills of time management, report and presentation preparation, creativity skills, team work, investigation and research.
Where does it lead?
This course will give you a good grounding in becoming a manager or for owning your own business. This course can also lead onto Higher Education. The BTEC Level 3 has the same value as A Levels and is accepted by employers and most universities.
What will I learn?
You will study 4 units in total across the two years of the course. The units are listed below:
You will explore business ownership, organisation, business aims and strategies, the external factors affecting business success and the importance of innovation and enterprise. You will use a case study based on Alton Towers.
Developing a Marketing Campaign
You will look at the principles and purposes of marketing and use the information to plan and develop a marketing campaign for a business.
Personal & Business Finance
You will study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.
Recruitment & Selection Process
You will explore how the recruitment process is carried out in a business. This will give you the opportunity to participate in selection interviews and review your performance.
How will I be assessed?
Currently this course is assessed through coursework and controlled assessment. You will also complete an externally assessed exam.

What activities can I get involved in?
You will learn how to apply the knowledge you have gained and make business decisions through work experience, case study materials and speakers. You will also visit businesses to find out to find out how they operate. This includes a trip to Alton Towers which you will use as a case study for some of your modules.
